Concrete Foundations in Wichita Falls, TX

A foundation is the slab everything else rests on — literally. Get the forms, the reinforcement, and the site prep right before the pour and the building above it has a fighting chance. Get them wrong and you are fighting the soil underneath for the life of the structure.

We pour foundation slabs for homes, shops, garages, and outbuildings across Wichita Falls and the surrounding counties. The work before the concrete truck shows up is what makes a foundation hold up against North Texas ground movement. By the time we pour, the hard part should already be done.

What the Job Involves, Step by Step

1

Site prep

We clear, grade, and compact the site so the foundation rests on stable ground. On clay soil, this means getting the base uniform and dealing with moisture before we set a single form.

2

Forms

We set forms to the right elevation and layout so the slab ends up the right size, the right height, and dead level. Forms are where the foundation starts — get them wrong and everything downstream is wrong too.

3

Reinforcement

We lay steel reinforcement — rebar or post-tension cable — sized to the loads and the soil. Reinforcement is what lets a foundation take the movement our clay soils hand it without coming apart.

4

Utilities and penetrations

We block out plumbing, electrical, and any other penetrations so they come through in the right place instead of getting cut in after the pour. A little planning here saves a lot of core drilling later.

5

Pour

We place the concrete and consolidate it so there are no voids around the reinforcement or at the edges. A foundation with honeycombing in it is a foundation that starts life with weak spots.

6

Finish and cure

We finish the surface to the spec and protect the slab while it cures. A foundation that cures too fast in the Texas heat never reaches the strength it was designed for.

Many cities and counties require a permit for new foundations. Check with your city, or ask us when you call.

Questions to Ask Any Contractor About This Work

Texas does not issue a state license for concrete contractors, so the best way to vet a pour is to ask sharp questions. Print this list and use it.

How thick will the foundation slab be?

What reinforcement are you using, and why that one?

How are you prepping the site for this soil?

Do I need a permit for this foundation?

How do you handle utilities and penetrations through the slab?

What is the cure time before we can build on it?

Concrete Foundations FAQs

How thick should a foundation slab be?

It depends on what sits on it. A residential garage or shop slab is often 5 to 6 inches with a perimeter beam, while a light outbuilding may need less. We size the thickness and reinforcement to the building and the loads, not to a one-size number.

Do I need a permit for a new foundation in Wichita Falls?

Many cities and counties require a permit for new foundations. Check with your city, or ask us when you call. Permit rules vary by city and by what you are building, so it is worth confirming before the pour rather than after.

What is the difference between a monolithic slab and a slab with grade beams?

A monolithic slab is poured in one piece with thickened edges. A slab with grade beams has deeper perimeter and interior beams that carry the load down to more stable soil. Which one you need depends on the building, the soil, and the load. We will tell you which fits your project.

How do you prep for North Texas clay soil?

By dealing with the moisture and movement before we pour. That means grading for drainage, compacting a stable base, and using reinforcement that lets the slab flex with the soil instead of cracking through it. Clay is predictable in one way — it moves — so the prep has to assume it will.

How long does a foundation take to cure before we can build?

Concrete reaches most of its strength in about seven days and full design strength at around 28 days. For framing, we usually wait several days to a week depending on the slab. We will give you the exact timing for your pour and your building schedule.

Do you pour foundations for shops and outbuildings?

Yes. We pour foundation slabs for shops, garages, barns, equipment pads, and outbuildings across Wichita Falls and the surrounding counties. A shop slab that will hold a vehicle lift or heavy equipment is poured differently than a storage shed, and we plan for the load.
